Women in the Millennium City can feel a little more secure as the local police has started an autorickshaw service exclusively for them
In the wake of rape of a call centre employee, Gurgaon Police have started autos which will ferry only women. The police were working on this project for some time, but they decided to speed up the process after recent incidents of crime against women.

"Initially we have started 12 autos exclusively for women to make them feel safe and secure. The local police have verified the drivers of these autos. The service is available on the main roads of Gurgaon and also at all the five metro stations of the city," Gurgaon Police Commissioner S S Deswal said. The police chief said that in future more 'women only' autos would be introduced.
To make them more feminine these autos are coloured pink and. The autos will be available at all five Metro stations of Gurgaon. To make the journey hassle-free the rates have been fixed.
"The fare for all the autos running in Gurgaon has been fixed so that the drivers don't overcharge commuters. The fixed fare list has been given to all the auto drivers. Currently male drivers are operating these vehicles, but we welcome women. We are also planning to start 'women only' bus services," said Bharti Arora, DCP (Traffic), Gurgaon.
