In a startling claim, former mayor Vaishali Bankar alleged that Pune Municipal Corporation-made dustbins are illegally available for sale in Andaman & Nicobar for Rs 100 per piece.

"One of my relatives got transferred by his company to the union territory last year. While he was out for shopping, he was shocked on finding dustbins, with PMC logo on them, for sale," Bankar said.

She added that the incident took place at least six months ago, when she was mayor. "My relative bought two buckets from that shop. After he informed me, I asked him to click pictures of the outlet with the PMC dustbins, but, unfortunately, by the time he returned to the shop, all the bins had been sold out," she said.

She added that after getting the information, she immediately informed PMC commissioner Mahesh Pathak, asking him to look into the issue. But, till date he has not informed her about any probe, she maintained.

PMC provides dustbins to every city ward according to demands received from the corporators. "On one hand, after repeated demands, corporators have not received their share of dustbins, and here, in other parts of the country, these waste bins are getting sold in the open market. This is really shocking," Bankar added.
