Pune Metro has announced special arrangements to manage the expected increase in passenger numbers during Ganeshotsav 2026 and make travel easier for devotees and daily commuters, officials said.
Metro services will be increased between September 14 and 26, with trains running every five minutes during peak hours. Additional crowd management measures will also be introduced at stations in central Pune.
On the occasion of Anant Chaturdashi, Pune Metro will operate continuously for 41 hours. Services will begin at 6 am on September 25 and continue until 11 pm on September 26.
From September 14 to 16, trains will operate according to the regular timetable, from 6 am to 11 pm.
Between September 17 and 24, special services will run from 6 am to 2 am to cater to devotees travelling during the festival.
From September 27, metro services will return to the regular operating hours of 6 am to 11 pm.
A special one-way passenger movement system will be introduced at Mahatma Phule Mandai Metro Station from September 14 to 26 to manage the expected crowds in central Pune.
Passengers will enter the station through Gate No. 3, near the Lokmanya Tilak statue. The exit will be through Gate No. 2 on Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Road.
The arrangement is aimed at reducing congestion and ensuring smoother movement inside and outside the station.
Devotees visiting Ganesh mandals in the Peth areas have been advised to use Kasba Peth Metro Station while travelling on Corridor 1.
Passengers arriving from the Vanaz direction on Corridor 2 have been advised to get off at Deccan Gymkhana. Those travelling from the Ramwadi direction have been advised to use PMC Metro Station.
The Pune metro administration has also appealed to passengers to use Mandai station mainly for their return journey to prevent overcrowding.
Devotees travelling for Ganesh darshan have been advised to avoid changing corridors at District Court Metro Station, where Corridors 1 and 2 intersect.
Instead, passengers have been encouraged to use Kasba Peth, PMC and Chhatrapati Sambhaji Udyan stations, depending on their route.
The move is intended to spread passenger traffic across multiple stations and reduce overcrowding at District Court.
