Pune paraglider dies in crash in Bulgarian mountains

Noted paraglider Dilip Kotecha (44), a resident of Koregaon Park, was killed after his glider crashed during the Pre-World Cup Championship of Paragliding in the Balkan Mountains in Bulgaria. As per Bulgarian timing, the incident took place at 3 pm on Sunday


Life cut short
"Dilip had left for Bulgaria on July 13 to participate in the championship and the incident took place on the second day of the tournament when he was paragliding in the Balkan mountains over the village of Vasil Lavski," Kotecha's cousin Dr Shrayansh K said.u00a0

"We received the news from the authorities in Bulgaria on Sunday night," he said.u00a0Rescue efforts futileu00a0Dr Shrayansh said that though the rescue team had rushed Kotecha to the hospital, he could not be saved.

"We have applied for the visa and will be going to Bulgaria to bring his body back to the city," he said.u00a0Kotecha had won the 2009 Pre World Cup Championship held in Serbia and was the first Indian abroad, in paragliding, to win the tournament.

In the past, Kotecha had participated in several paragliding competitions in Chian, u00a0Korea, Brazil, Slovenia and Switzerland. A real estate consultant by profession, Kotecha is survived by wife and two children.u00a0
