Explosives go off in a car near Red Fort Metro Station: An explosion took place in a slow-moving vehicle near the Red Fort traffic signal around 6.52 pm on Monday. According to the Delhi Police passengers were present in the car.
Fire breaks out after explosion: The blast triggered a fire that severely damaged several vehicles nearby.
Emergency response: Five fire tenders, ambulances, along with senior Delhi Police officers rushed to the scene. The National Investigation Team (NIA) and National Security Guard (NSG) have also reached the spot, as per latest updates.
Casualties: Fifteen people were taken to Lok Nayak Hospital; eight were declared dead on arrival, three are critically injured, and one person is in stable condition.
Top-level review: Union Home Minister Amit Shah briefed Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who has taken stock of the situation.
Investigation underway: The area has been cordoned off; forensic teams are examining the blast site to determine the cause and type of explosive used.
Eyewitness accounts: Locals described hearing a deafening explosion and seeing flames from nearby homes.

Arms recovery link probed: Officials are investigating any possible connection between the blast and a recent arms and ammonium nitrate seizure in Haryana's Faridabad.
