Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Sunetra Pawar on Friday called on citizens to take a collective pledge to transform Beed into a "developed, capable, and self-reliant" district. She was speaking at a flag-hoisting ceremony held at the Police Headquarters parade ground to mark Maharashtra Foundation Day.
Addressing the gathering, Pawar stressed the importance of public participation in driving development. She described the Marathwada region as a land known for its saints, scholars, and courageous individuals, underlining its rich cultural and historical legacy. Highlighting her personal connection to the region, she noted her roots in Ter town of Dharashiv district and reiterated her commitment to its progress.
Pawar outlined several initiatives aimed at accelerating growth in the district. Among the key projects is a Rs 197 crore Centre for Invention, Innovation, Incubation and Training (CIIIT) being set up in the industrial development area in partnership with Tata Technologies. The centre is expected to provide industry-relevant technical training to around 7,000 students, strengthening the local workforce and improving employment opportunities.
The Deputy Chief Minister also highlighted major infrastructure developments underway in the district. The Beed airport project has been officially initiated to enhance regional connectivity and boost economic activity. Additionally, funds have been sanctioned to complete the remaining work on the Ahilyanagar-Beed-Parli Vaijnath railway line, which is expected to serve as a crucial transport corridor for both passengers and goods.
In a move to promote sports and youth engagement, Pawar said that Rs 25 crore has been allocated for developing sports infrastructure in Beed. The district is set to host the Late Khashaba Jadhav State-Level Wrestling Competition in July 2026, an event expected to attract participants and spectators from across the state.
Pawar also praised Beed's performance under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, noting that the district secured the second rank in Maharashtra for the completion of housing projects.
On the occasion, several police personnel, along with members of the Home Guard, Fire Brigade, and Medical Services, were honoured with medals for their exemplary service.
Reiterating her appeal, Pawar urged residents to actively contribute to the district's transformation, stating that collective effort and commitment would be key to achieving long-term, sustainable development in Beed.
