New streetlights to be dust-proof
and insect-proof
New streetlights to be dust-proof and insect-proofAhead of the Commonwealth Games 2010, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) is planning to launch an ambitious scheme to change the old streetlights and install new, improved ones across the Capital.
The proposed project is estimated to cost around Rs 80 crore, an MCD Standing Committee meeting was informed on Wednesday. There are complaints that in many areas of the city, the existing streetlights are either non-functional or not of very good quality. It will be ensured that the new streetlights are of better quality, dust-proof and insect-proof, officials said.
The proposal envisages taking the necessary amount from the local area development funds of councillors. However, some corporators objected to the proposal to use the councillor fund.
MCD Standing Committee Chairman Vijender Gupta said that roads will be inspected by engineering department officials in all wards and the new lights will be installed if the area councillor feels so.
