India to open Cho La in Sikkim under battlefield tourism plan

India plans to open Cho La in Sikkim for visitors as part of its new "battlefield tourism" initiative, aimed at attracting tourists to historically significant military sites. The Sikkim government confirmed that the project will also cover areas near Doklam, a sensitive trijunction between India, China, and Bhutan that witnessed a military standoff in 2017.

Authorities are preparing to upgrade infrastructure to handle tourists, and special permits will be issued to allow visits to the Indian side of Doklam. The Sikkim government coordinating closely with the army to ensure smooth implementation.

Initial plans include allowing 30 vehicles daily to these areas, with the number possibly rising to 50 based on road conditions and army clearance.
