Senior Congress leader Sonia Gandhi has been admitted to Sir Ganga Ram Hospital after developing a fever and is currently undergoing treatment for a systemic infection, hospital authorities confirmed on Thursday, reported news agency ANI.

Doctors attending to the veteran leader said her condition is stable and she is responding positively to treatment.

Admitted with Fever, Undergoing Antibiotic Treatment

According to hospital officials, Sonia Gandhi was admitted late on the night of March 24 at around 10:22 PM after she reported fever-related symptoms, reported ANI.

Chairman of the hospital, Dr. Ajay Swaroop, stated that she is being treated with antibiotics under close medical supervision. A team of senior doctors, including Dr. D.S. Rana, Dr. S. Nundy, and Dr. Arup Basu, is monitoring her condition, reported ANI.

Medical experts indicated that she is responding well to the ongoing treatment.

Doctors Conduct Further Tests to Identify Infection Source

Hospital authorities said that additional investigations are underway to determine the exact source of the infection. Preliminary assessments suggest the possibility of infections related to the stomach or urinary tract, though confirmation is awaited, reported ANI.

Doctors added that she has been admitted as a precautionary measure to ensure comprehensive monitoring and timely medical intervention.

Rahul Gandhi Cancels Kerala Visit

Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, visited the hospital following her admission and stayed back in New Delhi to be with his mother.

He also cancelled his scheduled visit to Kerala and instead addressed a public rally in Kozhikode virtually, citing concern over her health.

During his address, Rahul Gandhi said he chose to remain in Delhi due to his mother's hospitalisation and expressed gratitude toward the medical staff attending to her.

Recent Health Concerns and Medical History

Doctors also noted that Sonia Gandhi had recently experienced a mild aggravation of bronchial asthma, possibly triggered by cold weather conditions and prevailing air pollution levels in the national capital, reported ANI.

This is not the first instance of her hospitalisation in recent times. She was admitted last year for stomach-related issues and had also undergone treatment at a medical facility in Shimla.

Condition Stable, Under Close Observation

Hospital officials reiterated that Sonia Gandhi remains stable and is under continuous observation. Further updates are expected based on the results of ongoing medical tests.

The Congress leadership and party workers across the country have expressed concern and are closely monitoring her health condition.
