The Supreme Court on Monday sought responses from the Centre and the Punjab government on a plea alleging non-implementation of the Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education (RTE) Act, 2009, in the state.
The bench referred to an affidavit filed by the state which had said that over 450 students belonging to the economically weaker section were admitted in private schools, while the plea claims that the number should have been around 50,000.
The petitioner claimed that the provisions of the Act were not being implemented in Punjab for the past 15 years.
