Delhi Metro Rail starts sale of toy train

Vasu Jaiswal, a regular Delhi Metro Rail commuter on the Dwarka-ISBT sector, will take home a Metro coach this Diwali. Not the actual one but a miniature model that can even roll forward.

To make the service even more popular among Delhiites, a toy model of the Metro coach has been designed and put on sale at the Metro Rail museum at Patel Chowk station. Visitors can buy these toy Metros from the museum's souvenir shop.

The miniature model is an exact replica of an actual Metro coach.

"The toy train is available in two types. One model has a push-back feature which allows it to move. The other model comes without this facility. The cost of the two is Rs 105 and Rs 95 per model, respectively," said DMRC Chief Public Relations Officer Anuj Dayal.

"Toy buses and trains fascinate children. And they will love the toy Metro train, as they will be able to correlate it with the original train running on the tracks," said Jaiswal.

Not only kids, the toy is fascinating the big boys too.

Forty-five year old Kumar Manish, who has been collecting dummy toys since childhood, said "I collect miniatures of vehicles like cars. Since the launch of Delhi Metro, I have been wishing to purchase toy version.

But a replica wasn't available. Now with the introduction of the Delhi Metro toy train, one of my dreams has been fulfilled."

One for me
The toy Metro train is made of non-toxic plastic and is steel-grey in colour. The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation, which retains the rights to manufacture the model, has produced 3,000 toys initially through a Delhi-based fabricator.
