Techie finds Rs 55 crore in his account

Jayesh Agarwal (30), an entrepreneur techie from Pune, rubbed his eyes in disbelief and pinched himself to check if it was for real when he saw a whopping Rs 55 crore reflecting in his ICICI Bank savings account.

Nearly 20 transaction details of another person were reflected in Jayesh's account, due to a breach of security.

However, when he checked two hours later, the transactions had disappeared.

Jayesh logged on to his online account on the morning of February 9 and got the biggest surprise of his life.

"When I checked my ICICI bank account, I was shocked to see transaction details of another person to the effect of Rs 55 crore in my account.

The transaction details of Rs 55 crore stayed in my account for two hours.

I have even saved the screenshot of that transaction as proof. I wonder if ICICI's online banking is safe."

Jayesh added that when he logged on to his account two hours later, the Rs 55 crore amount had disappeared from the list of transactions.

A spokesperson of ICICI Bank in Mumbai told MiD DAY that their Internet banking is absolutely safe and its customers need not have any fears.

"Internet banking option of ICICI Bank is safe and millions of transactions are executed online everyday. In this particular case, it could have been an issue of refreshing the screen.

There is no compromise on the safety and security of our customers' account," said Charudatta Deshpande, head, corporate communications, ICICI Bank.

Shell shocked

Jayesh said he did not know how to react when he saw the amount in his account. He was shocked to know that someone else managed to breach into his account using his ID and password.

"I wanted to bring this issue before the bank so that there is no compromise on security issues for online transactions.

What if I had transferred the money from that account to another account? It would have been a big scam.
