Tendering process begins for city's ring road project

The ring road project was proposed in 2007 to reduce traffic woes in the city, and the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) has now begun the tendering process

Under this project five highways would connect outside the city, which was supposed to ensure that commercial vehicles bypass the city and not enter it.

"The tendering process will take at least three to four months, after which selected companies conduct an extensive survey of the proposed land. Currently, tentative land is decided for the project. In the case of highway or any other huge infrastructure project, a detailed field survey is necessary to calculate soil pattern, forestland and other natural or manmade obstacles. After the survey, a detailed project report (DPR) will be prepared, which will take a long time. The most crucial part of land acquisition comes after approval of DPR," said an MSRDC official.

Chandmal Parmar, president of Maratha Chamber of Commerce Industries and Agriculture's (MCCIA) Road and Rail Committee said a new plan had been prepared so that acquiring land would not be a problem for the project.u00a0
