As many as 1126 civilians and security personnel lost their lives in terror related attacks in 2009 in Jammu and Kashmir, northeastern states, and the Naxal affected states, said Minister of State for Home Affairs Ajay Maken in the Rajya Sabha.
Around 900 terrorists and Naxalites were also killed during the period (Jan-Oct 2009), informed the minister.
In Jammu and Kashmir, 123 civilians and security forces personnel were killed from Jan-Oct 2009 against 166 in 2008. Number of terrorists killed during the same period stood at 212, as against 339 in 2008.
In northeastern States, the number of civilians and security forces killed up to Oct 31, 2009 was 261, while it was 512 in 2008. During the same period 497 extremists were killed (till Oct 31, 2009), against 640 in 2008.
In Naxal affected states, 742 civilians and security personnel died up to October this year, while it was 721 in 2008. As many as 170 Naxalites were killed this year, while 199 Naxalites lost their lives in 2008.
