Gold and diamond jewellery worth Rs 12.7 lakh and cash have been reported missing from the Kalyaninagar residence of the CEO of an automobile major. Two people appointed for housekeeping and a cook are suspected by the complainant, who lives in Landmark Garden, a posh apartment complex in Kalyaninagar. The police said they were interrogating three employees of a housekeeping company that has an office at a prominent mall in Yerawada.

The police are confused by the fact that none of the suspects tried to flee. They said the suspects were also not trying to avoid being present whenever they were called in for inquiry. The theft was discovered after the family noticed Rs 18,500 kept on a table had vanished. They then proceeded to see if their gold and diamond valuables were safe, but found these also missing from the cupboard.

According to the family of Rajeev Kapoor, who is the CEO of a leading company in the automobile sector, no one had entered their residence from outside. "We are considering all possible angles," said PSI S M Gholap, who is investigating the case. The Yerawada police said Kapoor had given the complaint in the case. They said his family had last seen the missing valuables on May 23 and suspected the theft had occurred between May 23 and June 1.

Kapoor declined to comment, saying that the matter was with the police. The Yerawada police said a cook and a person appointed for housekeeping had been working at the complainant's residence for the past four to five months. As the person appointed for housekeeping was on leave, the company had sent a woman as a replacement.

She worked at the Kapoor residence on May 31 and June 1, on which day another woman was sent in the evening for the housekeeping work. Later in the day, when a member of the family looked for the valuables kept in the cupboard, she found these missing.

"We have called three employees appointed by the housekeeping company for inquiry. They are denying the charges of theft," said Gholap. "The family has told us that no one from outside came to their residence in the mentioned period. We are looking for more leads."
