A senior Tihar jail officer said that after the Delhi High Court gave them permission to run stalls from its premises and other lower courts, the officials decided to design clothes for advocates. "Sanjana will be arriving in Tihar in the next few days to design clothes for advocates and these clothes will be put on sale in Delhi High Court and five other lower courts," said Tihar Jail spokesperson, Suneel Kumar Gupta.

When contacted by MiD DAY, Sanjana Jon confirmed that she had designed some shirts for lawyers and these will be prepared by the inmates of Tihar jail. "We are working on designs which are custom made for advocates and these designs will be sold at the stalls at the High Court and other courts," said Sanjana.u00a0

The stalls would be inaugurated on April 16 by acting Chief Justice of Delhi High Court Madan B Lokur and Justice Pradeep Kundra.

Bar-ring none

Tihar, one of the biggest jails in Asia, is already a brand at the Delhi Fair with people thronging the jail stall and demand and sale of products keeps increasing every year. Products like paper files, clothes, bakery items, furniture items, carved wooden products, bags, greeting cards and cotton shirts are a hit among Delhiites due to their quality and low price. These products are aimed at providing vocational training and also financial help to inmates, as many of them are the only breadwinners of their family.

Who is Sanjana

Sanjana is the sister of Indian-born fashion designer Anand Jon, who was sentenced to 59 years in jail by a Los Angeles court recently of sexually assaulting several girls and young women. During his trial, Sanjana made frequent visits to India with her mother to appeal to the Indian government and design fraternity to fight for her brother, and gradually became a popular socialite here. She did a show at the Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week last October as a tribute to her brother, where Salman Khan and Sushmita Sen walked the ramp for her.
