Tripura has launched a project to convert around 5000 electricity-powered drinking water pumps into solar-powered systems to reduce the state's power bill, officials said on Wednesday.
Around Rs 125 crore is spent annually on electricity to operate nearly 10,000 pumps across the state. Conversion of 2300 small-bore pumps into solar-powered units, at an cost of Rs 60 crore, has begun.
