Nagpur: Union Minister for Transport and Shipping Nitin Gadkari has promised cement roads, sanitation facilities, clean water and a garbage treatment plant which would produce biogas at Pachgaon village near here, which he has adopted.

The village, 15 km from here, is in Umrer tehsil and has a population of 4,923. Of the 761 houses in the village, only 454 have toilets.

Gadkari, who adopted the village under the Sansad Adarsh Gram Yojna, said during his visit there last evening that he would provide a financial assistance of Rs 12,000 to the Gram Panchayat for construction of toilets in each household.

The local farmers mainly cultivate cotton and cauliflower. A cold storage for the cauliflower crop would be built in due course, Gadkari's Public Relations Officer Sudhir Deolgaonkar said.

Also, Rs 25 lakh would be spent for construction of a community hall, and Rs 10 lakh for a gymnasium. Gadkari was welcomed by Sarpanch Punyasheela Meshram and a large crowd of villagers during his visit. MP Kripal Tumane and local MLA Sudhir Parve were also present.
