The police in Uttar Pradesh booked a DJ and has launched a probe after a poultry farm owner in Dariyapur village alleged that around 140 chickens died after being exposed to extremely loud music played during a wedding procession, reported the PTI.
The incident reportedly took place on the night of April 25 when a wedding procession passed near the farm.
The farm owner, identified as Sabir, claimed that the high-decibel sound from the DJ system caused panic among the birds.
In his complaint, he stated that the sudden and intense noise frightened the chickens, leading to their deaths.
Following the complaint, police have registered a case against the DJ operator, identified as Kavi Yadav, according to the PTI.
The officials said that an investigation is currently underway to determine whether the sound system exceeded permissible noise limits.
Station House Officer Mahendra Pratap Singh said officials are examining all aspects of the case, including compliance with noise regulations, as per the PTI.
According to experts, exposure to very loud noise can cause severe stress in birds and animals. In extreme cases, such stress may lead to cardiac arrest, which could explain the deaths reported at the poultry far, an official said, the PTI reported.
It said that officials are continuing their inquiry to establish the exact cause of the incident and determine accountability. Further action will depend on the findings regarding noise levels and possible violations of regulations.
Meanwhile, in an another incident, a wild elephant trampled two men to death in the Lalkuan area of Uttarakhand's Nainital, forest officials said on Wednesday, the news agency reported.
According to the officials, the incident occurred in the Shah Pathani area under the Tanda range of the Tarai Central forest division on Tuesday night. Both victims died on the spot.
Forest department and police teams reached the site upon receiving information and sent the bodies for post-mortem examination.
One of the deceased was identified as Bandho Prajapati (75), a native of Jharkhand who worked as a watchman in local fields. The second victim is yet to be identified, the PTI reported.
