The Centre on Wednesday assured that it will ensure 100 per cent domestic supply of LPG to household consumers for cooking purposes, despite the ongoing West Asia crisis affecting imports.
Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, Sujata Sharma, said the government is making every effort to maintain uninterrupted supply of cooking gas to common households.
"Due to the West Asia crisis, our imports have been affected, whether it is LPG, crude oil, or natural gas. However, the Government of India is making every effort to ensure 100 per cent domestic supply of LPG to household consumers for cooking purposes. At the same time, efforts are being made to supply up to 70 per cent to commercial users as well," Sharma said.
She further informed that no dry-out has been reported at any LPG distributor across the country.
In the last two days, approximately 87.28 lakh LPG cylinders were delivered against 88.82 lakh bookings, with a delivery rate of nearly 95 per cent.
The statement comes at a time when the situation in West Asia has impacted global energy supplies, raising concerns over availability of LPG, crude oil and natural gas in India.
The Ministry has prioritised domestic cooking gas to ensure that ordinary households do not face any inconvenience in their daily cooking needs.
The Delhi Police has busted an illegal LPG refilling and hoarding racket in Nangloi, seizing 96 domestic gas cylinders, vehicles and equipment.
Acting on specific intelligence inputs, a Crime Branch team conducted a raid at Bakkarwala Road in outer Delhi and apprehended three persons on Wednesday.
The arrested accused have been identified as Vinod (37), Vijay (38), and Vansh Raj (26). All three were allegedly associated with LPG delivery work.
According to police, the accused were illegally storing domestic LPG cylinders in a vacant plot and refilling gas from filled cylinders into empty ones using unauthorised metallic pipes and other equipment. They allegedly diverted cylinders meant for delivery and sold them in the open market after illegal refilling.
During the raid, police also recovered three tempos, three weighing machines and two metallic pipes.
"The accused failed to produce any valid documents for possessing such a large quantity of LPG cylinders. The Food and Supply Officer of Vikaspuri was informed, and police seized all the cylinders in his presence," a police officer said.
Further investigation is underway.
