A shocking incident took place on Sunday evening, where an undergraduate student of IIT-Kharagpur was found dead in his hostel, according to a statement.
The body of the fourth-year student in the Department of Ocean Engineering and Naval Architecture, was found hanging from the ceiling in his hostel room on Sunday evening, the statement said, reported news agency PTI.
The student was a native of the Gondia district in Maharashtra.
"The campus security and medical team were immediately alerted, and the local police authorities were informed. The deceased's family has also been contacted and informed about the incident," the statement issued by IIT-Kharagpur said, reported news agency PTI.

Police are investigating the circumstances leading to the death, and the institute is extending full cooperation to the authorities, the statement said.
"IIT-Kharagpur community is devastated by the untimely demise of such a young, bright student and expresses their heartfelt condolences to the deceased's family and friends," the statement said.
The statement added, "Our priority remains to support them in every possible manner during this challenging time," reported news agency PTI.
In another such case, the body of an 18-year-old with a bullet injury was found in Jammu park on Tuesday, police said.
According to PTI, the 18-year-old had been reported missing for the past couple of days, prompting concern among family and friends. On Monday, authorities said it appears the young man died by suicide. A pistol was recovered from the park in the Digiana area of Gandhi Nagar, where his body was found. Police have begun an investigation into the incident and are working to determine the circumstances leading up to his death. Further details are awaited pending a post-mortem examination and forensic analysis of the weapon.
The 18-year-old, a resident of Rani Talab, had a bullet mark on the right side of his head. Preliminary investigation suggests he shot himself with a pistol belonging to his father, police said, reported news agency PTI.
The motive is being ascertained, and police are also probing whether the weapon was licensed or not, police stated, reported news agency PTI.
