Anil Kumble, president, KSCA took media personnel on a tour of the stadium yesterday to highlight the preparations being made for the World Cup. What stood out as most exemplary was the media box with state-of-the-art facilities. "We wanted arrangements to be suitable for the occasion, and I think everyone will be happy with them," said Kumble.

The atmosphere at the stadium was jubilant with the city bagging the India- England match on February 27, after Eden Gardens at Kolkata was declared unfit. If this were not the case, KSCA would have had to host four insignificant tie-matches, out which only two had India playing.

While the whole stadium has been freshly painted, and the 40,000 seats at the stands are ready, the groundsmen are working on the pitch and the outfield. "We have readied the stadium for the World Cup now, and we have further plans for improvement," said Kumble. "We are planning to enhance seating capacity, presently at 40,000 to 65,000 seats, which will happen after the World Cup matches."

The expanded media box will have WiFi, is air-conditioned, and the commentary box is upgraded to have a better view of the field. The incandescent bulbs in the floodlight tresses have been replaced by LEDs and the number of bulbs has been reduced from 600 to 383 as an energy-saving measure.

"The arrangements are satisfactory and the stadium is entirely ready for the show," said James Fitzgerald, chief media manager, International Cricket Council.
