He hails from Guree village in Bijbehara block of Anantnag and has been declared one of the most wanted terrorists in the region. A reward of Rs 20 lakh has been announced by Anantnag Police for credible information leading to his capture.
Guree had travelled legally to Pakistan in 2018, where he reportedly received terror training before returning to India last year. Two Pakistani nationals have also been named most wanted in connection with the Pahalgam massacre.
On 25 April, two security personnel were injured during an encounter with terrorists in Bandipora district, Jammu and Kashmir. A joint search operation was launched by the Indian Army and J&K Police in the Kolnar Ajas area based on specific intelligence inputs.
A gunfight ensued during the operation, and the situation remains tense with further updates awaited. The Pahalgam attack on 22 April targeted tourists at the Baisaran meadow, claiming 25 Indian lives and one Nepali national.

In response, the Indian government has taken diplomatic steps including closing the Integrated Check Post at Attari and suspending the SAARC Visa Exemption Scheme for Pakistani nationals. The terror strike has triggered nationwide protests, with citizens demanding tougher action against Pakistan and stricter internal security measures.
