Prime Minister Narendra Modi waves to supporters upon arriving in Sanand, Gujarat, for the inauguration of Micron Technology’s semiconductor facility

The Prime Minister meets Micron CEO Sanjay Mehrotra, Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, and other dignitaries at the event

PM Modi described the plant as a symbol of deep India-US cooperation, particularly in artificial intelligence and chip technologies

Calling microchips the “regulator of this century,” Modi says semiconductors will bridge the industrial and AI revolutions. He also noted that 10 semiconductor projects have been approved under the Semicon India programme, with more facilities set to begin production soon

The Sanand plant, built with an investment of Rs 22,516 crore, will manufacture SSD storage devices, DRAM and NAND products. Everything from mobiles to cameras require chips which will be manufactured here

Modi says India is firmly establishing its identity in hardware after long being known for its strength in software.
