Six years after he allegedly inflicted third-degree torture on a businessman in police custody, Sub-inspector Rajendra Bhosale finally landed in the MRA Marg police's net.

Bhosale has also been charged with planting a pistol and a substantial quantity of drugs to frame Rajesh Solanki (45) in criminal cases. The police officer allegedly did this to help a builder settle scores with Solanki.

Solanki told the police that Bhosale's torture methods included injecting an acidic ointment in his private parts. The torture took place when Bhosale was attached to the Gamdevi police station in South Mumbai.

Solanki was arrested by the police on October 19, 2004, when a builder, Ravi Shelatkar, who owed Solanki money, allegedly bribed Bhosale to frame him.

Documents were fabricated to prove that Solanki was in possession of a 9 mm caliber pistol and brown sugar. Meting out third-degree torture to Solanki was allegedly part of the contract offered to Bhosale.

"They put me through a terrible time in the lock-up. Bhosale even injected an acidic oil in my private parts through a syringe as part of his torture methods," Solanki told MiD DAY.

Inquiry

The court ordered an inquiry after Solanki spent 150 days in Arthur Road jail. The matter was handed over to the MRA Marg police station.

Police Inspector Ramnath Ambre (now senior inspector of Vile Parle police station) completed the inquiry and concluded that Solanki was framed.

According to Ambre's report, Solanki came in touch with Shelatkar in 1995. Shelatkar told Solanki that he was planning to build a 24-storey tower in Parel and offered him a way of making money by getting people to buy flats.

Solanki managed 45 bookings amounting to Rs 2.5 crore but Shelatkar went underground after taking the amount.

Solanki ran into Shelatkar at the BMC headquarters a few days later and demanded the money.

After Solanki made repeated demands, Shelatkar asked him to come to his relative's office at Jogeshwari. However, when he went to take the money, Shelatkar was not there.

When Solanki had just left the office, six policemen, including Bhosale, arrested him for possessing a revolver and brown sugar. On the record, Bhosale showed that Solanki was arrested near a Sulabh Sauchalay in Dongri.u00a0
On November 21, 2006 MRA Marg police registered an FIR against Bhosale and 12 others in this case. The investigating officer recommended Bhosale's dismissal twice but no action was taken.

On Thursday, the High Court rejected Bhosale's anticipatory bail plea and he was arrested. Shelatkar is also in police custody in another cheating case.

Confirming Bhosale's arrest, Sanjeev Kokil, senior inspector, MRA Marg police station, said, "Bhosale has been arrested and will be produced in court on Friday."

"During investigation Bhosale asked me how I dared to demand money from Shelatkar Bhai. Another senior police inspector also threatened to bump me off in an encounter if I complained against them," said Solanki.
