The Constitution of the country allows its citizens several kinds of freedom - freedom of speech, freedom of choice etc.

And in the same land the courts of law and justice are open to pleas from any person who has a grievance at hand.

However, in recent times, citizens of this country have taken to filing frivolous complaints and cases to garner their 15 minutes of fame.

A case in point is that of Hemendra Singh, a resident of Shriganganagar in Rajasthan. The 27-year-old bought a Samsung cellphone in April this year from a local dealer.

However, the parts of the instrument were faulty and the shop owner refused to replace the phone even though it was covered under the warranty period.

So instead of appealing to the consumer court, an enraged Singh went ahead and filed a complaint against actor Aamir Khan, who endorses the brand.

Fan-tastic

In his affidavit, Singh, a computer hardware engineer, claimed that he bought the cellphone only because Khan endorsed it, and that he held the actor in high esteem.

"I am a fan of Aamir Khan and I believed his claim (advertisement) and bought the handset," said Singh.

Actor summoned

The magistrate issued a summons to the actor asking him to be present before the court on November 29.

Singh claims to have sent a legal notice to Aamir's residence on August 20, 2010. Aamir, however, did not receive the notice.

Singh's lawyer, Rajesh Kumar Luna said, "Aamir is the brand ambassador of the product and as the handset was substandard the court has issued a notice to him."

Then on September 25, Singh filed a complaint with the local consumer court against the shopowner under the provisions of cheating and breach of trust.

The actor was unreachable for comment despite repeated attempts. His secretary did not respond to SMSes.
