Police officer allegedly solicited sex from the 15-year-old victim who was forced into prostitution by her housemaid
A senior inspector has been accused of soliciting sex from a minor girl who was forced into prostitution by her domestic help.
The startling revelation was made by the Powai police during the probe into the rape of the 15-year-old victim.
The victim brought up the name of Arun Borade, Senior Inspector at LT Marg police station, as one of her customers.
Last month, the victim had delivered a premature baby. Subsequently, on November 3, a case was lodged against an unidentified person for allegedly raping the minor.
The police officer's name came up after the victim's mother lodged an FIR against their domestic servant, Shantabai Gaikwad, who had allegedly forced the girl to have sex with many high profile customers in Powai, including the said officer.
Investigation on
Police Commissioner Sanjeev Dayal confirmed the development in the case, saying that an inquiry has been set up against Borade.
Dayal said concrete action would be taken against Borade if investigations proved his role in raping the minor.
The victim found out about her pregnancy only when she was four months into it.
She confided in Gaikwad, who in turn took her to several hospitals for an abortion. But the doctors refused to perform the abortion citing her fragile medical condition.
Lurid confessions
The Powai police learnt about the incident only after the victim was recently admitted at the Rajawadi Hospital because of some health problems. Gaikwad was arrested on November 3.
Further investigation revealed that Gaikwad was running a high profile prostitution racket and lured minor girls into the racket who had financial problems.
The victim has alleged that she was also sent to a police officer who had asked Gaikwad for a minor girl.
DCP Prakash Muttial said, "It is too early to comment on the officer's role in the case. We have to confirm the allegations first as it could ruin someone's career."
So far, the victim has been able to talk about only two of her customers, Borade being one of them.
MiD DAY tried to contact Borade on his mobile phone several times and even texted him repeatedly but he remained unavailable for comment.
