Met experts say sporadic showers are normal between October and December

A low-pressure area over the Arabian Sea close to the coast of Mumbai resulted in heavy rain over parts of the city yesterday.

The rainfall recorded in parts of Dadar, Wadala, Bandra, Vile Parle and Andheri was over 11 mm through the day.

Keep the umbrellas handy as thundershowers may assail the city today

"We hope that this low pressure area will weaken. However, rainfall is expected to persist for a day or two," said V K Rajeev, director of the Indian Meteorological Department.

People in different parts of the city showed some concern over the rain.

Mumbai earlier this week too had seen rainy conditions but weather officials are pegging this activity as nothing unusual for the season.

"Basically the time from October to December is the cyclone season so these disturbances are normal. There is no need to worry over the same," said Rajeev.

Sources however added that people should keep their umbrellas handy as there were chances of rain for the next 24 hours.u00a0
