A robbery in a Congress MLA's flat near Mantralaya has raised concerns about the lack of stringent security arrangements in the premises.

In the wee hours of Saturday morning, seven mobile phones along with some cash and a credit card were stolen from room no 44 in the C-wing of Manora, the government quarters of Nanded MLA Madhavrao Patil Jawalgaonkar, despite the presence of a security guard.

The Cuffe Parade Police have registered an FIR against an unknown person.

"We have registered a complaint of theft. The accused entered the MLA's flat and stole seven mobile phones along with a few other things," said PSI Jagannath Gaikwad of Cuffe Parade police station.

The complaint was registered by a Congress party worker Brijmohan Dhirajprasad Mishra.

Mishra a resident of Parli Baijnath, Beed, informed police that MLA Jawalgaonkar and a few other party members including himself were lodged in the flat that night.

When he woke up at around 3 am, he found his mobile phone missing. Later he realised more mobile phones were missing.

"I did not lose my own phone but seven of my party workers lost theirs," said Jawalgaonkar.

Recurrence

However, this is not first incident of the kind. Two years ago, the door of a flat was broken, indicating robbery.

Then Assembly Speaker Babasaheb Kupekar directed the officials of the State Public Works Department (PWD) and the police to put strict security arrangements at these hostels.

Kupekar had orderedu00a0 CCTVs to be installed at the main gate, entrance, lifts and porch of the building.

But the administration repeatedly ignored his orders.

According to sources, the installation of CCTVs has been ignored so that the inappropriate conduct of the party workers, who also lodge at these hostels, are not recorded.
