Senior Inspector Sanjeev Kokil (left) of MRA Marg police station has accused Assistant Commissioner of Police (Azad Maidan division) Anil Mahabole of falsely trying to implicate him in an extortion case.

Kokil has sought permission from Dayal to register an FIR against Mahabole and Police Inspector Kalpana Pawar of MRA Marg police station.

According to the complaint (copy available with MiD DAY), Mahabole went to the police station on December 13 and ordered Pawar to register an FIR against Rahima B Shaikh alias Fantoos, alleging that she tried to extort Rs 4 lakh to Hanif Ismail Popatia on behalf of Sanjeev Kokil.

Following protocol, Pawar did as directed. At this time, Kokil was present at the police station but Mahabole and Pawar flouted protocol and did not acknowledge Kokil's presence.

Two days later, Mahabole realised that the complaint registered does not tantamount to a cognizable offence and went back to the police station, destroyed the earlier complaint, changed the statement and registered the case under fresh sections.

Earlier, the sections applied against Fantoos were only that of extortion but later Mahabole added sections of criminal intimidation, thereby making it a cognizable offence.

According to Kokil's complaint letter, Pawar tore the old case diary and added the section 506 (2) to arrest Fantoos and frame Kokil.

Underworld links

Determined to clear his name, Kokil has also sought permission to approach the Bombay High Court to register an FIR against Mahabole and Pawar.

According to Kokil's complaint, Mahabole is infamous for having links with underworld. He was thrown out from the police department in 2007, following an adverse report against Mahabole.

The complaint letter also states that Kokil has finished the "underworld rajya" from Musafirkhana and had demolished 500 illegal shops in the area.

When contacted, Kokil refused to comment on the issue stating that this is an internal matter.

The Other Side
Mahabole said, "I am unware of Kokil's letter. No such incident ever happened."
Despite repeated attempts, Pawar did not respond to
MiD DAY's calls and text messages.
