A six-year-old boy, Asif Khan, was found with his head smashed near a public garden in Kashimira, Mira Road, yesterday.

Police suspect that the boy was sexually abused before the killer smashed his head with a rock and dumped his body by the roadside.

The child was a senior kindergarten student at Vinayak Vidyalaya in Mira Road. Police Inspector Anand Bhoir of Kashimira police station said, "Asif was a resident of Chikarpada and was reported missing since the past seven days."

"We got a call from a resident of Pandurangwadi about an unidentified body.

When we reached the spot, we found that the child's head had been smashed by a rock by the killer. We also found a 10-rupee note near the boy's palm," said Bhoir.

'Perplexed'

"When we got a call from the police, I went to Pandurangwadi. I don't have any enemies. I don't know who can do this," said the boy's father, Lal Mohammed Khan.

"We do not suspect that the boy was kidnapped for ransom as his parents are poor and would not be able to afford it. In addition, the parents did not get any call for ransom," added Bhoir.

The police have sent the body for post-mortem.
