26-year-old married woman from Delhi dies mysteriously weeks after moving to the city; cops doubt suicide theory as evidence points to possibility of murder
The Versova police is trying to solve the mystery behind the death of Ruhi Khan (26), who arrived in Mumbai a few weeks ago and "jumped" from her newly rented flat.
Cops are unsure if Khan, a resident of Delhi, committed suicide by jumping from Amrut Tara society in Versova around 3.30 am on Sunday.
They have no inkling as to the reasons she may have had to kill herself, and are inclined to believe that this could be a case of murder as Khan was carrying her bag and cell phone at the time she jumped.
Her neighbours barely knew her and were unable to shed much light on the company she kept. "We don't know much about her as she had moved to the city just a few weeks ago.
She used to come home late in the night, often with people we hadn't seen before," said a resident from the building.
Cops also discovered that Khan's flat was locked before she jumped. They are investigating phone call details to ferret out any clues.
After verifying the documents found in her bag, cops said that Khan was married and her husband and parents reside in Delhi.
"We have informed her parents who will arrive on Monday. We will ask them why she moved to Mumbai.
We are waiting for the postmortem report to come to any conclusion," said Amitabh Gupta, additional commissioner of police.
Versova police have registered a case of accidental death and are waiting for the family to make a statement on the basis of which they will frame the charges.
Police are also questioning society members and security guards.
