Directorship for Kokilaben

In Reliance Industries Limited (RIL*s) 36th Annual General Meeting (AGM) held at the Birla Matoshree Auditorium yesterday, shareholders repeatedly asked RIL chairman Mukesh Ambani to make the Ambani family matriarch, Kokilaben, a member of the Board of Directors.

In at least four instances, different shareholders raised the issue and credited Kokilaben with playing a
pivotal role in brokering peace between the Ambani brothers.

While the proposal was greeted with a round of applause, Mukesh merely smiled and refrained from making a comment.

Meanwhile, even as Anil Ambani did not attend the AGM as was being speculated by the media, Mukesh gave a clear sign of a thaw in strained relations between the Ambani brothers.

In harmony

"With the legal dispute behind us, we look forward to a harmonious and constructive relationship with the Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Group (ADAG)," Mukesh said in his speech, exactly five years to the day when the Dhirubhai Ambani-created Reliance empire was split between the brothers.

He added that RIL would supply natural gas to ADAG*s power plants as and when they are ready to receive it.

Some questions that were posed to RIL*s chairman Mukesh Ambani by shareholders but were not answered: - How can RIL offer 4G services without violating the law? - Will you collaborate with Anil in power and telecom? - Has RIL brought in any strategic investor or partner for the Reliance Haryana SEZ? - What is RIL*s investment in Captain Gopinath*s logistics and cargo airline Deccan 360?
