Bad weather in London leaves passengers stranded at airport with no accommodation and no hope in sight

Passengers of a London-bound flight have been left stranded for almost two days now at Mumbai Airport, as heavy fog in Europe has affected all flights.

Approximately 15 passengers aboard Jet Airways flight number 9W0120K reached the city from Ahmedabad at 11 pm on Saturday and since then have been left abandoned at the airport.

The reason: All flights to London have been cancelled or delayed because of the heavy snowfall.

Falguni Patel, a London-based businesswoman left from Ahmedabad on Saturday night, in a Jet Airways flight for Mumbai as she was supposed to catch the 2.35 am flight for London.

She claims that when she left from Ahmedabad, she had asked the crew if the flight was on time.

"I was told that as I am taking the flight from Mumbai I should proceed and wait there. I reached Mumbai at 11 pm and was later intimated that the flight was cancelled."

Patel further claims that other passengers stuck in the same situation approached the Jet crew and asked them for help but their pleas were left unheard.

"We have been left to fend for ourselves. We asked the staff to provide accommodation or a return flight but both options were shot down.

We were told that if we go back to Ahmedabad, we would get another flight after a week's time."

Gita Patel, another passenger further elaborated that the Jet officials got them till immigration and issued them boarding passes.

"After issuing us our passes, when they realised that flights weren't plying to London, they started calling people and cancelling their boarding passes," she said.

"We were asked to seek accommodation ourselves. I have been sitting on these chairs for the last 24 hours." Patel also alleged that they were provided with lunch at 1.30 pm on Sunday and nothing after that.

"There were a bunch of Thai nationals who were also London bound, but the airlines offered them accommodation."

The adverse weather in France even affected pop singer Lady Gaga. All 28 of her tour trucks had been detained for more than 24 hours, as heavy trucks were ordered off the city's roads during the icy weather. "I am furious and devastated," she Tweeted.

The Other Side
Ragini Chopra, spokesperson, Jet Airways, confirmed that the London-bound flights have been cancelled because of weather conditions. "We offered people either to go back to their residence till the conditions improved. We accommodated people from Bangkok and other foreign cities as they were in transit. However, now we have been told that the airport in London will open tomorrow, so we are providing the people at the airport accommodation."
