Activist who blew lid off the 15-year-old's rape case alleges more police officers are involved; says Powai police is dragging its feet on their arrest

The Mumbai Police, which is still reeling from the shock of dismissed senior inspector Arun Borude's involvement in the rape of a 15-year-old girl, may have more shocks in store yet.

Activist Sunil Kajrolkar, who blew the lid off the case, has alleged that more police officers were involved in raping the girl.

He said that the Powai police, which was reluctant to lodge a case against Borude, is also dragging its feet on taking action against the other officers involved.

"The Powai police are not initiating action as they are sarkari officers. It is surprising that they have been unable to nab the disgraced encounter specialist," Kajrolkar said.

Sources from the Powai police said six other police officers were involved in raping the minor.

They are believed to be part of a major sex syndicate in the suburb and the story doing the rounds is that they are doing everything in their power to scuttle the investigation.

Insiders said one of the investigating officers even sent a message to Borude to settle the matter as his name had surfaced during preliminary investigations.

Kajrolkar said he is planning to stage a bhook hartal outside the Powai police station if the other suspects are not nabbed before December 5. "We have informed all the concerned officials about the protests," he remarked.

Meanwhile, the police have withdrawn the security cover given to the rape victim, who has been discharged from the Rajawadi hospital in Ghatkopar.

The victim's mother said no provision has been made to look after the newborn. "There are no medicines for the child," she said.

The Other Side
"The matter is still being investigated," said Additional Commissioner of Police Amitabh Gupta.
