Mother delivers in loo, abandons dead baby

A prematurely delivered dead baby boy was abandoned by its mother in the loo at Bhabha Hospital. As there were no CCTVs fitted in the area, the police have no clue what the mother looks like

An unidentified mother delivered a six month-old premature baby inside the toilet of Bandra's Bhabha Hospital and left the dead baby inside the ladies' toilet. The police are unable to trace the woman as CCTVs were not installed in the area. The baby weighed 950 gm and was found with traces of placenta.

The incident occurred on Thursday night when an unknown woman entered the hospital and delivered the baby. The matter came to light when a lady patient entered the toilet, located opposite the casualty ward, and noticed the dead baby lying inside. She contacted the doctors in the ward who immediately informed the Bandra police.

An official from Bhabha Hospital, said, "The woman who delivered the baby was not a patient and hadn't filled in any hospital forms. She came to the hospital, and directly entered the toilet. We don't know who the woman is."

The police are clueless about the identity of the woman since CCTV cameras weren't installed in the area.
Deputy Commissioner of Police KM Prasanna, said, "We have registered a case on the unknown person under section 318 of IPC. Further investigations are on."

The body of the baby was handed on Friday morning to Cooper Hospital for a postmortem. The police are awaiting the reports.
