Just a day after a two-month-old infant was kidnapped by a burqa-clad woman from a health centre in Govandi, news of a baby abandoned by his alleged mother at Sion Hospital has surfaced.
On Sunday, November 14, two-month-old Amir Babu Mohammad was abandoned by his alleged mother at the paediatric ward of the hospital. The baby had been admitted to the hospital just a week earlier on November 6.

The mother's name was not listed in the hospital's official record while the address listed was invalid too.
Doctors in the hospital told MiD DAY that Amir was suffering from a rare congenital disorder called Down's Syndrome.
"Due to the Syndrome, the baby will be mentally challenged when he grows up.

Also, the baby's heart has a developmental deformity because of the Syndrome that might even require a surgery," said a senior doctor, on the condition of anonymity.
The mother's mysterious identity and the infant's fragile medical condition could indicate the reason for the abandonment.
Concerned motherHowever, doctors who met the alleged mother said that she seemed worried about the infant's welfare. "We never expected her to abandon the infant as she appeared very concerned about his health and welfare," said a doctor.
Dr Sandhya Kamat, Dean of Sion Hospital confirmed the incident. She said, "The baby is still admitted in the hospital and we are taking care of him."
"The address provided by the woman is false. We have launched a search operation to trace her," said P G Nagare, senior police inspector at Sion police station.
