Railways tie up with private firm to allow you to book tickets by logging on or sending a text messageGetting long-distance train tickets may be less difficult than it used to be.
The Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation has tied up with a private company to help people book train tickets.
The company will create a real-time web based system which will reflect all transactions on a real-time basis.
The customer simply has to send a text message or log on to a website to book a ticket.
"We have started this facility for passengers' convenience. From anywhere, one can book a ticket from any station to any destination," said head of Atom Technologies Dewang Neralla.
"In Mumbai, people hardly have the time to queue up for tickets. And given that everyone has a cellphone, we decided to start this facility."
24-hour serviceOnce the customer completes the booking procedure, a copy of the ticket will be emailed through this 24-hour service.
"Initially, the facility will only be available for long-distance trains but could be implemented for suburban season tickets too," said Neralla.
