Colleges will also serve as SSC exam centres, allowing more seating space
SSC board examinations are likely to be a more comfortable experience for students in the city from 2012 onwards.
Already pressured by the thought of appearing for the board exams, many students had to also deal with shortage of seating spaces in schools designated as SSC board exam centres.
The inclusion of degree colleges will ensure that students have adequate number of benches to sit on
However, this will not be an issue anymore as the Education Department is set to include degree college campuses as exam centres as well.
This should come as a relief to students as, previously, many have written exam papers in corridors because of the lack of benches.
Thinking ahead
Additionally, the Department is also considering releasing the timetable of the 2012 SSC and HSC board exams very early, in Juneu00a0 2011 itself.
This could enable students to plan their study schedule way ahead of time for the boards as well as other competitive exams.
These decisions were taken last Monday at a school principals' meeting convened at Bhavan's college by board officials.
Jayesh Patel, vice principal of Hinduja College, said, "Getting colleges to provide extra space as exam centres for SSC boards is a good decision as several school centres sometimes face a space crunch."
Anila Pillai, vice principal of HR College, said thatu00a0 early declaration of the exam timetable would be a plus for the student.
"Now, if the board declares the results for SSC and HSC early as well, it will be highly appreciated by everyone as that can enable students to prepare for other competitive exams too."
Father Jeud Fernandez of St Stanislaus School in Bandra had some reservations about the move though. He said, "Declaring the timetables early can cause some confusion if they are to be changed later because of some unforeseen situation."
Ravindra Bhise, state board secretary of Mumbai Division, refused to comment on the developments, saying, "I was not in the meeting so I am not aware of this issue and I cannot say anything."
