City school and company buses have joined the transport strike

The Maharashtra School Bus and Company Bus Owners' Association is set to join the all-India indefinite transport strike from December 5. However, only those school and company buses that pay toll tax or take special permits for picnics will participate in the strike.

This comes in the wake of allegations by the Association that the government is not keeping a tab on toll nakas, and despite paying hefty tolls, roads are not being maintained.

Around 150 school buses and 3,000 company buses that provide services in Andheri, Borivali, Dahisar and Navi Mumbai won't ply the roads.

The issue was reported by MiD Day on September 24, when we found three agencies maintain NH 17 (or the Mumbai-Goa highway). While none of them could ensure a decent road, they still continued to demand toll.

"We have decided to join the strike and are postponing picnics that usually are scheduled for December, to support theu00a0 strike," said Anil Garg, President, School Bus Owners' Association (SBOA).

While private unaided schools located in South Mumbai may not be affected, in the western suburbs, most aided schools might be hit.
