Nursing students of St George Hospital complain that college superintendent uses the gym during girls' hours
They're teenyboppers and 20-somethings who might, in ordinary circumstances, vie for male attention. But certainly not the type they seem to be getting in their college gym.
Female nursing students of St George Hospital, CST have lodged a complaint against their college superintendent who, they claim, uses the college gym during hours allotted to them.
And they say he's been doing it for the past two years.
Upset at the regular visits of their 55-year-old 'health-conscious' superintendent, u00a0Dr Chandrakant Gaikwad, around 60 nursing students have complained to the head of Directorate of Medical Education and Research (DMER), Dr W B Tayade u00a0(see box).
Sources told MiD DAY that initially Gaikwad had been requested by senior officials of the college to stop using the gym during those hours, but he refused to comply.
When MiD DAY contacted the Director of Directorate of Health Services Dr D S Dakhure, he admitted that Gaikwad has several inquiries pending against him.

"At present, he is working under the DMER and it's they who should immediately look into the matter as it is grave in nature."
In the past
Dr C Gaikwad was caught ferrying his daughter to her college in Navi Mumbai in the hospital's ambulance van.u00a0
Gaikwad was suspended after he was found guilty of accepting money for regularising the services u00a0of an employee who got newly transferred to the hospital by the health department.
Excerpts from the letter
"Our respectful superintendent frequents the gym between 5 am and 7 am, which are the timings when girls use the gym.
Due to his visits, we are apprehensive to use the gym and require your intervention so that we can start using the facility."
The Other Side
Dr Gaikwad said, u00a0"I used to go to the gym earlier but not anymore. Besides, the gym is hospital property and there is nothing wrong with my using it."
Asked why no action has been taken yet, Director DMER, Dr W B Tayade said, "Dr Gaikwad is an employee of the health services and is in our college on deputation.

I have not seen the complaint copy but will ask my subordinates to look into the matter and initiate and enquiry."
