Nightmarish fog delays and cancellations finally lifted with unseasonal rain

Despite the foggy conditions over the past two days, nightmarish delays and uncertainty of flight services at Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGI), flyers may have a reason to smile after all.

The light rain and unrelenting fog did not affect the busy Delhi sector and services remained normal.

As predicted by the weather bureau, Delhi witnessed both fog and light rain at the IGI airport on Monday morning; however, flight services from and to Mumbai remained unaffected.

"Flights operated on time, and there was not much delay especially on the Delhi sector," said an ATC official. Flight services to Bangalore also operated on time and there were no major delays.

Though the wet conditions may have affected some by dropping the temperatures lower, it marginalized the impact of fog and improved visibility to over 300 meters.

The improved visibility ensured that no flight from or to IGI airport of Delhi was cancelled or diverted.

Over the past days since Christmas, dense fog at the IGI airport in Delhi led to the diversions, delays and cancellation of hundreds of flights.

Things worsened between Thursday and Saturday and flyers were faced with nightmarish experiences caused by the weather.
