The Crime Branch of Mumbai Police yesterday claimed to have cracked the airport loot and murder case with the arrest of three persons.
The same arrest also closed the Santacruz robbery case worth of Rs 25 lakh, according to the police.
According to sources, Crime Branch Unit-8 headed by Senior Inspector Sardar Patil arrested the three accused persons identified as Kishore Rathod, Virendra and Rajendra. The fourth accused, Lalya is still absconding.
All the accused are residents of Khar. Both the major robbery cases, one at the airport and the other at Santacruz were linked to the same accused.
On May 25, 2009, around 11.30 am, the accused persons entered the Air India cargo booking area at the Mumbai Airport.
During that time, Pidilite Industries officials were booking six parcels of gold and silver coins weighing 145 kg worth Rs 35 lakh.u00a0While the parcels were passing the security screening, the robbers broke in with loaded guns.
Two parcels had already passed screening and the accused made away with the four remaining parcels. When the security guard S Bhosle attempted to interrupt the heist, they shot him dead and fled.
