Former gangster Ashwin Naik's daughter trashes reports of her marriage plans with the son of his arch-rival Arun Gawli

A marriage proposal, reported by a newspaper, between the offspring of underworld arch rivals has turned out to be a damp squib.

Nobody's marrying anyone because "nothing of what was published is true". We smell a lawsuit.

Rubbishing the rumour, Rushika, daughter of former gangster Ashwin Naik, who had reportedly agreed to marry Mahesh,u00a0 son of gangster Arun Gawli, said, "That news is completely baseless. Nothing of what was published is true."

The Naik household was shocked at what Rushika confirmed is utter fiction. They are now planning to sue the tabloid for maligning her and her family's image.

"It hasu00a0 disturbed our family tremendously and we will not tolerate such irresponsible behaviour," said Ashwin Naik, who was released from prison last year after being acquitted of all charges.

The Naiks are seeking legal opinion to take further action.

Refuting that she even knows Mahesh, Rushika said, "I do not know any Mahesh Gawli. We didn't study together and nor am I interested in him. My family has no ties with Gawli."

Rushika said she had to face the trauma of public embarrassment, making it hard for her to concentrate on her studies with her final year exams due next week.

The youngster, who is in her final year in a dentistry course, said she is disturbed by the 'baseless' reportage. "Such baseless news affects me.

At a time when I should have been concentrating on my studies, I have to deal with calls from curious friends and relatives," she said.

Rushika fumed that nobody called her to confirm or cross check facts before publishing the article. "Anybody in the right frame of mind would know such a thing is never possible," she said.
