Despite warnings, a commuter risked his life hopping between two stationary trains at Wadala station, according to the caption on our Daily Dossier page. The page, which features news and views in a snippet format, has one big picture of the day.
Recently, our photographer caught a young man who was moving from one train, balancing himself on a barricade and then putting his foot on another train which was stationary alongside. It looked highly risky because if any of the trains started moving, it would be sure disaster or death for this commuter. He would also have suffered a grievous injury if, by any chance, he slipped and fell between the trains. He may not have had a chance to extricate himself from the space, and the trains may have started moving.
Do your train switching at the correct space, on the platform, and in a proper manner. One simply cannot cross between trains. A stationary train is not a platform.
Do not stand right at the front, near the steps of a BEST bus when readying to alight. You obscure the view of the driver and a sharp brake may send you outside the bus altogether. Do not jog along trying to catch a bus. Alighting or boarding at traffic signals is hazardous.
Do not rush in the midst of traffic trying desperately to flag down cabs and rickshaws. Do not lean out of rickshaws. We have so many challenges - crowded roads, no rear seatbelts in cabs, rickshaws that careen madly between traffic. Some circumstances are beyond our control, but we can do all to ensure our safety in some aspects.
