Dilli's penchant for decisions in the dark once again came to the fore with Raja's ouster. It seamlessly harked back to Prithviraj's late night ascension to the Mumbai throne. Clearly the Congress party works best in the darkest hours. Either way, both decisions, at different edges of the corruption spectrum in sheer scale, have taken some heat off the corruption embattled Congress for the moment.
But even the grand old party knows, the Joint Parliamentary Committee demand on the 2G scam, that's now being made not only ups the ante but is something it may eventually have to concede. For the moment though Dilli seems on a roll to at least eject the corrupt.
Bet the ousted ones are hoping this is the only punishment they will get and those not ousted yet are praying for escape. Public anger, media exposes, and the sheer exigencies of new age politics may still mete out more guilty ones and more severe punishments. Bated breath, all around in Delhi therefore.
Do we have lift-off?Despite some teething troubles and attempts to frighten travellers, Dilli is still quite excited about the new T3 terminal at the Indira Gandhi International Airport, which is now fully operational.
Relief may be at hand for Mumbaikars too, as Environment Minister Jairam Ramesh has finally okayed the Navi Mumbai airport project after months of acrimonious confrontations with Civil Aviation Minister Praful Patel. More than once during the long gestation, it did seem that the project would be grounded, before pragmatism prevailed.
With environmental issues settled to everybody's satisfaction, apparently after some modifications in the original proposal, the green nod from Ramesh may also be a sign that he may be toning down the antagonistic approach. But in the case of the airport, Patel playing hardball may be what ultimately swung matters Mumbai's way.
