20-metre dinosaur discovered in Brazil points to ancient Europe connection

About 120 million years ago, a 20-meter dinosaur roamed northeastern Brazil. Recently unearthed during road-rail construction in Davinopolis, Maranhao, the fossils belong to a newly identified species: Dasosaurus tocantinensis.

Its closest known relative lived in Spain, pointing to an ancient link between Europe and South America. Researchers say its ancestors reached South America via North Africa between 140 and 120 million years ago.
