French officials say swastikas have been scrawled on a memorial to Jews deported to concentration camps during the Holocaust

French officials say swastikas have been scrawled on a memorial to Jews deported to concentration camps during the Holocaust.

French Interior Minister Michele Alliot-Marie has condemned anti-Semitic inscriptions made at the memorial in Drancy, northeast of Paris, a site representing "the memory of the deportation and extermination of France's Jews."

The police headquarters of the Seine-Saint-Denis region say large swastikas were found today painted on a train car and pillar that are central to the Drancy memorial site. During the Nazi occupation of France in World War II, tens of thousands of Jews were sent through a transit camp in Drancy before being sent on to Nazi concentration camps.
