John Lennon's killer, Mark Chapman, has said that he considered trying to murder Elizabeth Taylor, or chat show host Johnny Carson, but decided the Beatle was an easier target.
Chapman shot Lennon outside the Dakota apartment building in Manhattan on December 8, 1980 in front of his wife Yoko Ono.
Chapman said he chose to attack Lennon because the building "wasn't quite as cloistered" as spots where he could find other stars on his list.

"He seemed more accessible to me," Chapman said, adding that there were other names, in addition to Taylor and Carson.
Chapman was sentenced to 20 years to life and is held in a New York prison.
