The former model and wife of French President Nicholas Sarkozy makes the revelation in the new biography, Carla and the Ambitious, which she helped author.
The statement was supposedly made during a private conversation between the two first spouses when the Sarkozys visited the White House in March.
Bruni recalls she asked Michelle Obama about her role as the wife to the President of the United States.
The First Lady allegedly replied, "Don't ask! It's hell. I can't stand it!"
Bruni (42), also claims in the book that Sarkozy would be happy being just a one-term president of France, reports, and refers to herself as a "femme fatale."
The book also states Bruni and her husband obtained a police report, which identified the culprits behind reports that the two had been having affairs. The couple had denied any such claim.
The outspoken Italian, who has a small role in the upcoming Woody Allen film, Midnight in Paris, has had a notable singing career and courted controversy in the past due to nude photos, racy song lyrics and her sharp tongue.
Bruni and President Sarkozy were married in 2008.
Carla and the Ambitious, the official biography of Bruni written by Michael Darmon and Yves Derai, is being released to combat the unauthorised book about France's first lady, Carla: A Secret Life, by French journalist Besma Lahouri.
Quashing RumoursThe White House and the French embassy in Washington moved quickly to shoot down claims that Michelle Obama told Carla Bruni that life was "hell" as first lady. But the White House and the French embassy acted quickly to defuse controversy over the alleged remarks, saying Michelle Obama said nothing of the sort.
